Methodist Church Nigeria

The Methodist Church Nigeria (MCN ) is the United Methodist Church of Nigeria. She is a member of the World Methodist Council and the World Council of Churches.

History

The Methodist mission began in Nigeria in 1842. IPO stations were located in Badagry and Abeokuta, from there, the Church spread in a westerly and northerly direction. With the arrival of the Primitive Methodist Church in 1893 on the island of Fernando Poo, located on the southern coast of Nigeria, also of southern Nigeria was included in the Methodist Mission. Both churches existed independently until they united after a conference in 1962. In 1976 the church was an episcopal constitution.

Organization

The highest decision-making body is the Conference of MCN. The prelate, who presides over her, is Sunday Olatunji Makinde. The MCN is divided into eight dioceses, each headed by a bishop. The archdioceses are subordinate 44 dioceses. According to the Constitution take laity in all decision-making in some meetings.

Activities

The church has been involved particularly in the education and health sector. Several hospitals were founded by the MCN and entertained, including a hospital for lepers, three psychiatric clinics and a home for AIDS orphans. She built schools, kindergartens and theological seminaries. At present, the establishment of a university is prepared, the Wesley University of Science and Technology ( WUSTO ) in Ondo State.
