Methylene blue is a triphenylmethane dye. Both the mixture with the very similar blue water and these two pure substances themselves are often referred to as aniline blue, water soluble ( CAS: 8004-91-9 ) refers. It itself should not be confused with the similar name of the methylene blue.
Properties
Methylene blue has its absorption maximum in the wavelength range below 600 nm, the dye is soluble in water.
Use
Methylene blue stains collagen blue in tissue structures. It is used as a dye for staining of histological sections polychrome, in cytology and pH indicator (pH 9.4 to 14.0 ).
