Propionic acid methyl ester may be prepared by esterification of propionic acid with methanol.

Industrially propionate is prepared by the reaction of ethene with carbon monoxide and methanol in the presence of nickel tetracarbonyl in 160-200 ° C and made ​​to 50 bar.

Use
