Methysergide is a drug which has been used in the prophylactic treatment of migraine. It acts as an antagonist or partial agonist at various serotonin receptors ( 5-HT receptors). Its migraine prophylactic effect was particularly associated with an inhibition of 5 - HT2B. Due to severe side effects, especially Retroperitonealfibrosen, Pleuralfibrosen and valvular fibrosis, methysergide was taken off the market.
