Metro-land

The name Metro -land describes an area north- west of London in the counties of Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire and Middlesex, which was opened by the Metropolitan Railway, now the Metropolitan Line of the London Underground.

Metro -land is originally a brand name, which was invented by James Garland, an employee of the advertising department of the Metropolitan Railway, so as to promote their offer. Also, it should thus be boosted construction activity in this area to attract more potential passengers. In 1915 the name was used on billboards and brochures.

From 1915 to 1932, the company also gave out an annual publication magazine called Metroland. This included Freizeittips that should particularly boost weekend traffic, but also ads for Real Estate along the way.

The notation " Metroland " is now common practice, the brand name, however, was "Metro - land" or " METRO -LAND ".
