Mexican Imperial Orders

The San Carlos Order was founded on 10 April 1865 as a lady north by the emperor Maximilian of Mexico.

He was named in honor of the patron saint, San Carlos and awarded for mercy and denials. Ceremony days were November 4, the day of the patron saint, San Carlos and July 7; Birthday of the Empress Charlotte.

Order class

There were two classes for this order

  • Grand Cross ( was limited for the empire to 24 members )
  • Small Cross

Order decoration

The religious character is a Latin cross, forming the arms of the cross in a lily shape. On the cross a second, green enamelled cross is placed. This carries the horizontal silver inscription Humilitas ( motto of the Holy Borromeo ) and on the back of San Carlos.

Ribbon

The Grand Cross was worn on a crimson sash over the right shoulder to the left and the small cross on the loop on the left chest. The band corresponded to the color of the Grand Cross.
