Miaoying Temple

The White Pagoda Temple (Chinese白塔寺, Pinyin Báitǎ Si) or Miaoying Temple (妙 应 寺, Miaoying Si) in Beijing goes back to the Liao Dynasty.

Under the Liao Dynasty, the Khitan ( Yanjing ) five stupas ( pagodas ) were built in the four cardinal directions and the center of the city in Beijing. All five were later destroyed, but in 1271 left the Mongols Emperor Kublai Khan of the Yuan Dynasty Nepalese artists Araniko on the terrace, on which one of the stupas had stood erect a new stupa. This was completed in 1279. The temple, which surrounded the stupa was destroyed and rebuilt in 1368 1457 the Ming dynasty again.

The site is since 1961 on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China ( 1-74 ).
