Michael Brougham, 5th Baron Brougham and Vaux

Michael John Brougham, 5th Baron Brougham and Vaux CBE ( born August 2, 1938) is a British politician ( Conservative Party ) and peer.

Life and career

Brougham was born the son of Victor Brougham, 4th Baron Brougham and Vaux, and Jean Follet. He attended the Lycée Jaccard in Pully ( Switzerland ), the Millfield School in Street, Somerset, and the Northampton Institute of Agriculture in Northamptonshire.

On June 20, 1967 Brougham inherited his father's title. Since 1993 he has been with a break in 1997, Deputy Chair of Committees. In 1995 he was also Deputy Speaker. Since 1996 he has been Chairman of the European Secure Vehicle Alliance Group. From 1998 to 2002 he was deputy chairman of the Association of Conservative Peers, since 2003 he has held this office again. In addition, he is a member, partly also vice chairman of several working groups in the House of Lords.

He was elected by the Hereditary Peers in 1999 and was able to retain his seat even after the House of Lords Act 1999.

Family

Brougham was married to Olivia Susan Gray since July 20, 1963. The couple divorced in 1967; the former wife died in 1986. They have a daughter, Henrietta Louise Brougham ( b. 1965 ). He married on January 17, 1969 Catherine Jill Gulliver. The marriage comes a son, Charles William Brougham ( b. 1971 ), who is also heir. This marriage was dissolved on 9 December 1981.

Honors

Brougham was in 1995 awarded the Order of the British Empire.
