Michael Brüggemann

Michael Brüggemann (* 1583 in Stolp in Pomerania, † September 7, 1654 Schmolsin ), also known under the name Pontanus, was a German Lutheran theologian.

Life

Brüggemann was 1610-1654 pastor in Schmolsin at Stolp and court preacher to the Duchess Anna von Croy ( 1590-1660 ). He dominated the Kashubian language and translated the Catechism of Martin Luther and other theological works and nonfiction into Kashubian.

The Duchess even let him out of the next room, where a painter was hiding, painting secretly against his will. The image in life-size, shows him with gray hair and a long beard, hung for many years in the Schmolsiner village church, now in the Middle Pomeranian Museum in Stolp.
