Michael Clegg

Michael Jamie Clegg ( born July 3, 1977 in Ashton -under- Lyne ) is a former English footballer. The defender spent the longest of his career at Manchester United.

Clegg came in 1993 as a young player to the English giants Manchester United and won in 1995 under captain Phil Neville with the youth team to the FA Youth Cup. A short time later, the defensive talent signed his first professional contract with Manchester. His debut in the Premier League, he celebrated 23 November 1996, in the starting lineup when he stood against Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium in front of 30,000 spectators ( Full 2:2 ).

In 1997, he won the award Denzil Haroun Reserve Team Player of the Year, as the best player of the reserve of the association. Clegg did not succeed in the subsequent period, however, to assert themselves in the first team and he was first hired in February 2000 for a month at Ipswich Town and from March to the end of the 1999/2000 season at Wigan Athletic. Until his retirement in 2002, Clegg had completed only nine league inserts for ManU in seven years, a total of 24, he went to duty stakes for the first team.

From 2002 to 2004 Clegg played in the third English league for Oldham Athletic, before the age of 27 years ended his playing career.

Clegg is now working as a fitness trainer at AFC Sunderland. He also runs a gym in Manchester. His father Mick Clegg works as a conditioning coach at Manchester United.
