Michael Conaghan

Michael Conaghan (Irish Mícheál Ó Connacháin ) is an Irish politician.

Conaghan was born in County Donegal, and raised as one of seven children on a small farm. Due to a bad economic situation in the region, many residents had to emigrate to England to find work. This also affected Conaghan and his father.

After his return to Ireland Conaghan studied at University College Dublin and was subsequently employed as a teacher. He found a job at Inchicore College of Further Education and worked the next 30 years there. Among other things, he served as its deputy director.

Since 1990, Conaghan thing of the Irish Labour Party. In 1991 he was elected to the Dublin Corporation, now Dublin City Council. On June 21, 2004, he was elected by the City Council to the 335th Lord Mayor of Dublin. This office had Conaghan held from June 2004 to June 2005. He lives with his wife Marian and two children in Ballyfermot. Conaghan is also chairman of the Save Bewley's campaign.
