Michael Green (painter and sculptor)

Michael John William Green ( born August 7, 1929 in Nyasaland, East Africa (now Malawi) ) is an English painter, sculptor and writer. He lives in London and Molini di Triora, Italy. As a painter and sculptor, he called Michael Green, a writer Michael JW Green.

Life

Born in Africa, Michael Green grew up in Somerset ( UK). He worked in England, Canada and the United States first in theater, film and television, and later in New York as a textile designer. In 1966 he opened a SoHo studio in Manhattan, New York, was co-founder of the SoHo Artists Association and began a life as a freelance artist. Beginning of the 1970s, he lived for a time in the artist colony Bussana Vecchia, Liguria, Italy. In 1972 he bought an old farmhouse in Molini di Triora and built this from a second home and studio. In 1986 he moved from New York to London, where he opened a studio in an old warehouse.

Work

As an artist, Michael Green is self-taught. As a painter, he soon developed his own very personal style of abstraction ( " Bridge Series ", " Painted Drawings" ). He also produces collages and collaged sculptures from found objects. Solo exhibitions, among others in Cyprus, Indiana, London and New York. In addition to numerous private collections, the British Museum and the Imperial War Museum in London Works by Michael Green was added to their collections. In 1978 he was Artist in Residence at Indiana State University in Terre Haute. Less well known are his printed in small editions prose texts and poems.
