Michael Henry (Jamaican politician)

Michael " Mike" Henry ( born June 1935 in Spanish Town, St. Catherine) is a Jamaican politician ( JLP ). He was from September 2007 to November 2011 Traffic and Construction Minister (Minister of Transport and Works) of Jamaica.

Life

Henry attended St. Catherine Elementary School, the Beckford & Smith High School and studied at Ealing Technical College in the UK. He has worked professionally as a writer and publisher, he has been since 1980 Chairman of Kingston Publishers Ltd.. He is married and has four children.

Policy

In 1976 Henry ran for the first time as a candidate of the Jamaica Labour Party ( JLP ) in the constituency of Central Clarendon for a seat in the House of Representatives, but was not elected. At the next election in 1980, he succeeded the catchment into parliament since he won the constituency of Central Clarendon in all elections for themselves. Henry has held in the past, various high offices of state, he was, among other tourism and agriculture minister (Minister of Tourism and Agriculture ) and Minister of State (Minister of State for Information).

In the parliamentary elections on September 3, 2007, he succeeded again, Central Clarendon to decide for themselves, and when the JLP after winning the election formed the new government, Henry was appointed Transport and Construction Minister. The swearing-in ceremony was held on 14 September 2007. When Andrew Holness was the successor of Bruce Golding as prime minister, he took Henry initially as a minister in his government. Henry fell but because of his handling of the responsibility for the Jamaica Development Infrastructure Programme ( JDIP ) increasing public criticism. Then Prime Minister Holness eluded him on 19 November 2011, the responsibility for the road project. On November 29 Henry resigned from his position as minister back. His successor was Shahine Robinson.
