Michael Mansell

Michael Mansell ( born June 1951 at the north of Tasmania ) is an Aboriginal. By profession he is a lawyer who uses himself as a political activist for the social, political and legal rights of Tasmanians. The indigenous inhabitants of Tasmania call themselves Palawa; he himself comes from the maternal and paternal Trawlwoolway of the Pinterrairer. But he also has European ancestry.

Political Activities

Since his early years Mansell protested against the status and treatment of the Tasmanians. He soon realized that the protests were ineffective and he gave the radical approach, with the work he and other Aboriginal people in the 1970s on. Although he had strong support in the indigenous community, led his publications and presented in the media views on controversies with politicians and media commentators. Most of all he is at odds with the Australian and Tasmanian Government regarding its demand for sovereignty for Aboriginal people.

Mansell reported in April 1987 on a Conference on Peace and Revolution in the Pacific ( Conference for Peace and Revolution in the Pacific) in Libya to enter a pub in front of a large international audience that it was banned in Australia Aborigines and that earlier there was customary hinwegzukicken head at burials of Aborigines. These statements were reproduced in Australian newspapers and it was revealed that Mansell earned the organization of Tasmanians in the Mathuba group of Muammar al - Gaddafi, the then established a worldwide network of 87 militias and insurgents. Members of this network was, inter alia, the Provisional Irish Republican Army (IRA ).

In order to promote the international recognition of indigenous peoples Tasmanians, he passes out for Aborigines. 1988 secured Gaddafi to the recognition and stated that they are valid for travel to Libya.

Run by Mansell Tasmanian Aboriginal Centre is not recognized by the Lia Pootah as representing the interests of Tasmanians. The Lia Pootah are a group consisting of descendants between Tasmanians and white sealers of Bass Strait.

In February 2008, Mansell said on Australian radio that he was pleased with the election of the new Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, as well as its formal public apology to the Stolen Generation. However, this excuse is not sufficient, because without a real compensation she was only half-heartedly. On the first anniversary of the official apology Mansell said that the apology has neither the situation of Aboriginal improved, nor that the government had eliminated the disadvantage of Aboriginal people in society. He called for a 1 billion Australian dollars by the Australian Government. The Tasmanian Government introduced the single government of this $ 5 million in compensation for their suffering of the children who were taken away from their parents, are available.

Profession

Mansell graduated from the University of Tasmania and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Law. He then took the profession of a lawyer; Aborigines defended and pursued political reform. He became a lawyer admitted to practice law both at low and at higher courts and the Supreme Court of Tasmania and the High Court of Australia.

He is chairman and CEO of the Tasmanian Aboriginal Centre and secretary of the Aboriginal Provisional Government ( Provisional Government of the Aborigines ).

1987 Mansell was elected Aboriginal of the Year and he played a crucial role in the design contract on the land rights of the Native Title Act 1993, which in the judgment Mabo v. Queensland (No. 2 ) is based.

Michael Mansell published publications on the Australian Constitution, the rights of Aboriginal people and their cultural and creative property rights, the Human Genome Project and the land rights and for Aboriginal sovereignty.
