Michael Milner, 2nd Baron Milner of Leeds

Arthur James Michael Milner, 2nd Baron Milner of Leeds ( born September 12, 1923 in Leeds, † 20 August 2003) was a British solicitor and Labour Party politician.

Life and career

Milner was born the son of James Milner, 1st Baron Milner of Leeds. He attended Oundle School and Trinity Hall, with a break of four years, as Milner served as a Flight Lieutenant in the Royal Air Force. He graduated in 1948 with a Master of Arts and was followed as a solicitor in the company of his family worked.

In July 1967, he inherited his father's title after his death. Milner was 1971-1974 Assistant Labour Whip and resigned this office, as Harold Wilson once again became prime minister. After the House of Lords Act 1999, he was one of the 92 Hereditary Peers remained in the House of Lords, as a reference for his continuous support of the Labour Party and to his father. He was also a member of the Worshipful Company of Clothworkers and Honorary Treasurer of the Society of Yorkshiremen in London from 1967 to 1970.

Lord Milner of Leeds was married twice, first with Sheila Margaret Hartley, daughter of Gerald Hartley, since 1951, and after her death in 2000, his second wife, Helen Cutting Wilmerding, daughter of Lucius Wilmerding. With his first wife he had three children, a son, Richard Milner and two daughters.

Milner died in August 2003 at the age of 79 years in a hospital.
