Michael Pate

Michael Pate ( born February 26, 1920 in Sydney, New South Wales, † 1 September 2008 ) was an Australian actor, film producer and screenwriter.

Career

Pate worked from 1938 as a writer for the Australian radio station Australian Broadcasting Corporation. After the serve his military service in World War II, he returned briefly to the radio, but then switched to acting. From 1949 he had roles in Hollywood films such as Hondo with John Wayne, The Court Jester with Danny Kaye or Julius Caesar with Louis Calhern in the title role. In 1953 he wrote the screenplay for Escape From Fort Bravo. The rest of the 1950s came to Pate in numerous films, but also in television series, including Zorro and Rin Tin Tin.

In the 1960s, followed by other guest roles in series such as 77 Sunset Strip, Gunsmoke, Mission: Impossible and take Mini -Max or the amazing adventures of Maxwell Smart. In 1966 he worked in the Western Hondo and the Apaches with, a remake of Hondo from 1953, in the same role of the leader of the Apaches (in the first film adaptation of " Vittorio " and the remake of " Vittoro " called ). 1968 Pate returned back to Australia, where he worked as a television producer. He also produced the feature film The Girl from the coral reef.

From 1971 to 1975 Michael Pate played in 192 episodes Detective Sergeant Vic Maddern in the Australian series Matlock Police. In 1979 he wrote the screenplay for Tim. In the movie with Mel Gibson and Piper Laurie in the lead roles, he was also a director, this remaining at the same time his only directorial effort.
