Michael Shaw, Baron Shaw of Northstead

Michael Norman Shaw, Baron Shaw of Northstead, of Liversedge in the County of West Yorkshire Kt DL ( born October 9, 1920) is a British politician of the Conservative Party, which for 30 years Member of the House of Commons was, and since 1994 as a Life Peer member of the House of Lords.

Life

After visiting the Sedbergh School Shaw worked as a bookkeeper and was a member of both the Livery Company the Worshipful Company of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales ( ICAEW ).

In a by-election in the constituency of Brighouse and Spenborough Shaw was, who was appointed in 1953 to the Magistrate ( Justice of Peace ) in Dewsbury, first elected on 17 March 1960 as a candidate of the Conservative Party for MPs in the House of Commons, but that constituency lost already in the general election on 15 October 1964. During this time he was 1962-1963 Parliamentary private Secretary to the Minister of Labour and National services, John Hare.

In the general election of 31 March 1966 he was again elected deputy of the lower house, and initially represented the constituency of Scarborough and Whitby and then since the general election on 28 February 1974 to the election of 9 April 1992 the electoral district of Scarborough. In that time, Shaw Parliamentary 1970-1973 Private Secretary to John Davies, Minister of Trade and Industry and Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster was between October 1970 and November 1972 until then.

Shaw, 1974-1979 and member of the British delegation to the European Parliament, in 1977, Deputy Lieutenant of West Yorkshire and a Knight Bachelor in 1982, so that he henceforth the additional name "Sir" led.

By Letters Patent of 30 September 1994 Shaw was raised as a life peer with the title Baron Shaw of Northstead, of Liversedge in the County of West Yorkshire in the peerage. Shortly afterwards, was his introduction ( Introduction) as a member of the House of Lords.
