Michael Vyner

Michael Vyner ( * 1943, † October 20, 1989 ) was a British musician.

Life

Vyner was 1972-1989 artistic director of the London Sinfonietta.

Vyner was since the early 1960s friends with Hans Werner Henze, with whom he made ​​music, was politically active and he pledged to commissioned works for the London Sinfonietta. Vyner died of AIDS.

Henze dedicated Vyners after death his composition Requiem, in the first part premiered in 1990, was commissioned by the London Sinfonietta. Peter Maxwell Davies composed of the same occasion, a Threnody on a Plainsong for Michael Vyner. The composer Luciano Berio, Harrison Birtwistle, Toru Takemitsu, Oliver Knussen, Henryk Górecki and Nigel Osborne participated in the memorial concert of the London Sinfonietta on May 6, 1990, new compositions. Henze's work was completely premiered on 24 February 1993 at WDR in Cologne under Ingo Metzmacher with the Ensemble Modern.

Between 1990 and 2004 promoted the posthumously decorated " Michael Vyner Trust" young composers.
