Nigel Osborne

Nigel Osborne MBE ( born June 23, 1948 in Manchester ) is an English composer.

Life

Osborne studied, among others, at the University of Edinburgh composition. His teachers were Kenneth Leighton, Egon Wellesz or Witold Rudzinski.

The works of Nigel Osborne were or will be played throughout the world by numerous internationally renowned ensembles and orchestras such as the Berlin Symphony Orchestra, the Moscow Symphony Orchestra and the London Philharmonic.

He is the recipient of several awards such as, among others, the Opera Prize of Radio Suisse Romande and the City of Geneva or the Koussevitzky Award from the Library of Congress in Washington DC. Moreover, Osborne sets for the application of music therapy in the rehabilitation of trauma patients, especially in children in war and crisis regions.

He is now a professor at the University of Edinburgh, but also teaches at other universities such as the University of Music and Theatre in Hanover.

Operas:

  • "Hell's Angels", chamber opera in two acts, 1986
  • "The Electrification of the Soviet Union " ( German Electrification of the Soviet Union), opera in two acts, 1987
  • "Terrible Mouth", opera in one act, 1992

He is also a composer of numerous musical pieces for solo instruments, chamber ensemble, orchestra and singing.
