Michael Welker

Michael Welker ( born in 1947 in Erlangen, Germany ) is a German Protestant theologian and Professor of Systematic Theology.

His research interests lie in classical themes of theological dogmatics, biblical theology on the one hand and in newer developments of Anglo-Saxon theology theology and theory on the other. He became known among other things through its publications to the Spirit of God, on the topics of creation ( also in dialogue with the natural sciences ), church in pluralism, resurrection, and the Lord's Supper, but also to AN Whitehead and process theology to Luhmann and systems theory.

Biography

His childhood and school time spent Michael Welker in West Berlin and in green city / Pfalz. In the Evangelical Church of the Palatinate, he was ordained. In 1973 he was awarded his doctorate in systematic theology in Tübingen ( Moltmann ); 1978 in philosophy in Heidelberg ( Henrich ). In 1980 he qualified as a professor in Tübingen with a thesis on AN Whitehead and process philosophy. In Tübingen, he was a professor from 1983 to 1987 Systematic Theology. From 1987-1991, he held the Chair of Reformed Theology in Münster, since 1991 the chair of systematic theology / dogmatics in Heidelberg.

Academic and church activity

Welker is the author and editor of numerous theological works. He held visiting professorships at the University of Chicago (1984 ), McMaster University (1985 ), at the Princeton Theological Seminary (1988 and 1995), at the Center of Theological Inquiry, Princeton, (1997, 1999) and at Harvard Divinity School (2001 ) true. From 1996-2006 he was Director of the International Scientific Forum of the University of Heidelberg ( IWH) In 2003 he received the offer to take over the post of Director at the Center of Theological Inquiry (CTI ) in Princeton. Since 2005 he is the Managing Director of the essential co-founders of Research Center for International and Interdisciplinary Theology ( FIIT ) in Heidelberg. Since 2004 member of the Chamber of Theology of the EKD and judge of the Constitutional Court of the EKD; Dr. theol. H.C. (Debrecen ); since 2006 a full member of the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences; University Medal from the University of Heidelberg. Since 1984 lecture tours in the United States, Hungary, Korea, China, South Africa; Since 1991, numerous endowed lectures.
