Michał Kazimierz Ogiński

Michael Casimir Oginski, lit. Mykolas Oginskis Casimir, Polish: Kazimierz Michał Ogiński weißr. Міхал Казімер Агінскі (* 1731 in Warsaw, † May 3, 1799 in Slonim ) was a Polish- Lithuanian prince, Great Hetman of Lithuania, a patron of the arts, even skillful draftsman, master of several instruments and inventor of the harp pedal.

Michael Casimir Oginski was one of the sixteen non-French encyclopedist the Encyclopédie.

He published many literary productions under the pseudonym Słonimski.

Life

In 1771 he put himself at the head of the confederation in Lithuania against the Russians, but was due to the unfortunate for the struggle rural Poland volatile ( Partitions of Poland ). Returned in 1776, he started at his own expense the Oginskischen channel and stood during the Diet of 1791 on the side of the patriots. His nephew Michael Cleophas Oginski (1765-1831) was a member of the Reichstag, envoy extraordinary in Holland, Grand Treasurer.
