Michel Lentz

Michel Lentz ( born May 21, 1820 Luxembourg - City, † September 8, 1893 ) was a Luxembourg public servant, writer and poet. As a lyricist of the Luxembourg National Anthem Ons Heemecht he was designated as a national poet.

Life

Michel Lentz came as the son of a master baker Jean -Pierre Lentz and his wife Marguerite Spresser in Luxembourg city to the world. After primary school, Lentz went to secondary school, from which he graduated in 1840 with the Abitur. After a year studying philology at the Université Libre in Brussels, he came in late 1842 to the State Secretariat of the Government. On September 10, 1851 Lentz married his wife Jeanne Reuter, with whom he had three children: Matilda, Elise and Pierre- Edmond Mathis. The latter died in the year 1899.

Until his retirement in 1892 he made ​​a career with the State. On September 8, 1893 died Michel Lentz, who was almost completely blind at this time. On September 10, Lentz was given a state funeral, personally gave the funeral oration at the Minister of State Paul Eyschen.

Michel Lentz is buried in the cemetery of Our Lady in Limpertsberg. After the death of Edmond de la Fontaine, another famous writer and poet of Luxembourg, it started up in 1903 for the construction of a monument entitled Dicks -Lentz Monument, which is located next to the Place d'Armes in Luxembourg City.
