Michel Longtin

Michel Longtin ( born May 20, 1946 in Montreal ) is a Canadian composer.

Longtin visited 1962-1963 courses in theater studies at the Banff School of Fine Arts and received a bachelor's degree in 1967 at the College of Eudistes in Montreal. He then studied computer science and with André Prévost music. From 1970 he studied at the University of Montreal in Prévost and Serge Garant. In addition, he was a pupil of Samuel Dolins at the Royal Conservatory of Music and worked at the Electronic Music Studio at McGill University with Paul Pedersen, Bengt Hambraeus and Alcides Lanza.

Since 1973, Longtin teaches at the University of Montreal and next to it at the École Vincent- d'Indy and McGill University. He was awarded the PRO Canada Award for Young Composers (1971 ), the price of the Canada Council (1974 ) and the Canadian League of Composers (1975 ) and the Jules Léger Prize (1986). His work ranges from chamber music and electroacoustic compositions up to the monumental symphonic piece quaternion (1997), which was performed in 2003 by the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal.
