Michel Pébereau

Michel Pébereau ( born January 23, 1942) is a French banker and chairman of the bank BNP Paribas.

Life

A graduate of the École polytechnique and elite schools École nationale d'administration was Pébereau after graduation, first financial inspector in the civil service. In 1986, he led the privatization of Crédit commercial de France, which he chaired from 1986 to 1993, the privatization of Banque Nationale de Paris, which he chaired from 1993 to 2000. After an unsuccessful attempt to take over Société Générale, the Banque Nationale de Paris managed the takeover of Paribas, which led to the creation of BNP Paribas in 2000. Pébereau was CEO of the new company and retained the post until 2003, when the Executive Committee and Chairman of the functions were separated. Since then Pébereau exerts latter function. In addition, he taught from 1968 to 2000 at the Institut d' études politiques de Paris, most recently as a professor.
