Michelangelo Tamburini

Michelangelo Tamburini ( born September 27, 1648 Modena, † February 28, 1730 in Rome) was the 14th General of the Society of Jesus.

Life

On January 16, 1665 Tamburini joined the Society of Jesus. After studying philosophy and theology twelve years was a lecturer in these subjects. At college in Bologna, he taught philosophy and theology in Mantua. Subsequently, he was appointed confessor of Cardinal Rinaldo d' Este. He held until 1696 this office.

In the years 1697 to 1699 Tamburini served as Provincial of the Province of the Order of Venice. Subsequently, he was appointed the 13th General of the Order, Thyrsus González, Secretary to the Order. As such, became Tamburini 1703 Vicar General.

As González seriously ill his official could not pursue in his later years, took over at the request of Pope Tamburini acting head of the Order. As González died on 27 October 1705, the General Assembly of the Order on January 3, 1706 Tamburini the 14th General of the Order.

At the age of 81 years Michelangelo Tamburini died on 28 February 1730 in Rome.
