Michelbeuern

Michelbeuern is part of the municipal district of Vienna Alsergrund and is occupied mainly by the New General Hospital.

History

The term Michelbeuern goes back to the location in Salzburg Benedictine Michaelbeuern. Already in restitution letter under the pen consecration in 1072, see the possessions mention, referred to as ' farm to Waring. These covered a large part of the present district Waehring and included vineyards, meadows and forests.

Through the establishment of the Walls line in 1704 ( during the Vienna belt accordingly) into town the actual location Michelbeuern'sche reason of Waehring was separated and incorporated to Alservorstadt. In addition to the Linienwall marked in the south and east of the Alserbach and north of the creek Währinger the boundaries of the area.

In Joseph's time (1786 ) the assignment of the pin holding of the Vienna Magistrate for 10,000 guilders was made.

Until the mid-19th century there was little development. On Alserbach in the south ( today's Lazarettgasse ) there was the Brünnlbad and Brünnlmühle. To the north is the k.k. Consumption tax - line office Waehring highlight at the site of today's Volksoper, while in the central part brick pits and stoves have been created. Topographic names in this area were ' On the Sichenals ' and ' In the Upper and Lower Gottlosbergen ' (also known as Gotzlosberg ).

1836 saw the establishment of k.k. privileged steam engines Fabriks AG ( Sigl'sche Maschinenfabrik, later Technological Arts Museum and today the Workshop and Culture House WUK or the HLMW9 Michelbeuern ) in the iron gate ( today Wilhelm- Exner -Gasse ). After 1848-1853, the Lower Austrian Provincial Lunatic Asylum was built on a hill of the area by Ferdinand Fellner, which was later continued as a psychiatric- neurological university clinic. The building lasted until 1974, when it was demolished during the construction of the new General Hospital.
