History

The area in 1280 was first mentioned as " light Werd ". The name " Werd ", referring to the location on an island between the Danube Canal and a now silted up branch of the Danube in the area of today Liechtenstein road as " expectant " was the Middle High German name for the island. However, the existing second part of the name Lichtental comes from a field name, which is known as Talwiese for centuries.

Originally Lichtental belonged to Roßau. Johann Adam Prince Liechtenstein acquired in 1687 together with the Auersperg'schen garden meadow in the Roßau. 1694 began the prince to set up a brewery on the acquired parcel between Liechtenstein and Althanstrasse road. In 1699 the remainder were released for parceling. The free base was subsequently also Liechtensteintal, but also Liechtental called while the residents for a long time the term " On the meadows " favorite. The name " Charles Town", which the prince had provided in honor of the emperor, however, could not prevail.

The regularly -scale settlement was built on the Prater terrace, but handed over the old Danube bank slope to the Nußdorferstraße city terrace. The first walled building the house of the shoemaker Johann Friedrich Riess was completed in the Salzergasse 38 that the name was given to the golden key. In 1701 there were already 14 houses on the former meadow. To 1720 was followed by 23 more, an additional 42 to 1730 and 1740 there were eventually a total of 95 houses. The settlement was initially in scattered location, which the conjecture suggests that the entire building had already staked out and the settlers were able to choose their building free. As early as 1730 the settlement extended over the whole area.

The rapid colonization also made to build a church necessary because in the meantime the services had to be held in the brewery. Already in 1712 began the construction of the light crowns parish church ( to the Holy. Helpers 14, Schubert Church ), which was completed in 1718. 1723 was the parish founded by separation of the church of the parish in the Währinger parish church, 1730 the consecration of the church. However, the growth of the parish area has already led from 1769 to 1773 to an extension of the church.

Economically played the hospitality industry in place a major role, as 20 houses, ten percent of the total stock harbored inns.

With the abolition of the seigneurial regime in 1848 Lichtental fell to the city of Vienna. 1850 Lichtental was incorporated into the newly formed district Alsergrund incorporated to Vienna.
