Micranthocereus albicephalus is a species of the genus Micranthocereus in the cactus family ( Cactaceae ). The specific epithet albicephalus means weißköpfig, weißschopfig '.

Description

Micranthocereus albicephalus grows from the base with branching columnar, green shoots and reaches stature heights of up to 2.5 meters. The shoots have diameters of up to 9 centimeters. There are up to 22 ribs. The 3 to 5 millimeters apart standing areolae are covered with bright yellow wool and white hair. From them spring numerous straight, to 15 millimeters long, thin, sharp, golden-yellow spines, one of which is directed downward. The 30 to 40 centimeters long and 8-9 centimeters wide cephalium consists of dense white wool and golden yellow to 6 centimeters long bristles.

The little bell-shaped flowers are white and open at night. They are 4.5 to 5 inches long. The spherical fruit reach diameter of 3 to 3.5 centimeters.

Micranthocereus albicephalus is common in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais. The first description as Austrocephalocereus albicephalus took place in 1973 by Albert Frederik Hendrik Buining and Arnold J. Brederoo. Friedrich Ritter she put 1979 in the genus Micranthocereus.
