Friedrich Ritter

Friedrich Ritter ( born May 9, 1898 in Quentel, a district of hessian Lichtenau; † 9 April 1989) was a German geologist and botanist. Its official botanical author abbreviation is " F.Ritter ".

Life

Friedrich Ritter studied at the University of Marburg, biology, geology and paleontology. After graduating in 1920, he emigrated with his parents to Mexico. In Mexico, he worked for various mining companies. During this time he began earnestly pursuing with cacti. From 1930 he undertook study tours to Peru, Bolivia, Argentina and Chile. From 1972 he lived until the end of 1979 in Paraguay. From the end of 1979, he lived in Germany again.

After knight named taxa

He was the genus Ritterocereus Backeb honor. Plant the cactus family ( Cactaceae ), named a synonym of Stenocereus today.

Friedrich Ritter in honor of a great many species of cactus have been designated, for example: Aztekium ritteri, Espostoa ritteri, Gymnocalycium ritterianum, Rebutia ritteri, Oreocereus ritteri and Parodia ritteri.
