Midgham is a village and civil parish in West Berkshire in England.

Location

It lies in the valley of the River Kennet, about 4 kilometers east of Newbury (Berkshire ) and west of London. 2001, it had 282 inhabitants. With Woolhampton it shares the station ( Midgham railway station) on the railway line Reading Plymouth.

History

Midgham had from about 1309 a chapel that stood near the present building Midgham House. The present church of St. Matthew in the style of the 13th century was built in 1869 by architect John Johnson. Midgham was until 1857 part of the parish of Newbury to 1857. The first vicar was after the Rev. John Errington Kitrchenbau then. The church is now part of a church association with St. Peter, and St. Mary Woolhampton in Beenham.
