Midnight Star
Midnight Star was a synth - funk music group of the 1980s with R & B influences. The band was active from 1976 to 1990.
Band History
The group was founded at the Kentucky State University by Reginald Calloway ( trumpet ), his brother Vincent ( trombone ) and singer Belinda Lipscomb 1976. Their first album, The Beginning was released in 1980 by RCA Records. The studio band the record company was involved. 1981 made it the second album Standing Together to No. 54 of the top R & B charts. 1982 changed to Midnight Star label SOLAR Records, appeared under the their third album Victory. At this time, the trio had already built up to a full band. It included Melvin Gentry (guitar), Kenneth Gant ( bass), Bobby Lovelace (drums), the multi-instrumentalist Bill Simmons and the keyboard player Bo Watson.
Since the Calloway were sent in terms of producing, it was not long until Midnight Star success at the African American audience had and successful with their first two singles hot spot and I've Been Watching You moved into the R & B charts. The fourth album No Parking on the Dance Floor came out in 1983. Both the album and the single from the album Freak -A- Zoid made it to number two on the R & B charts and brought the album platinum status respectively. The single operator from the fifth album, Planetary Invasion eventually reached number number one R & B charts and was the biggest single success of the group, the LP itself went to number seven.
In 1986 the last album on which the Calloway participated. It was called Headlines and succeeded also in seventh place of the R & B charts. The Calloway left the band in 1988. During the same year the album Midnight Star, which only came to number 14 in the charts appeared. After the last plate work it out from the year 1990, which was relatively unsuccessful in the chart with position 41, the formation broke up in 1990.
