Mieken Rieck

Magdalene " Mieken " Rieck ( born April 26, 1892 in Hamburg, † December 27, 1977 ibid, married Magdalene Galvao ) was a German tennis player and later Sportfunktionärin.

Life

Rieck, a member of the Harvestehuder THC, won in 1910 and 1911, the German Championships in Hamburg. Her biggest success was the victory in the hard-court world championships in Paris in 1913, after last year already was able to reach the final. From 1911 to 1914 Rieck took the Wimbledon Championships and reached there in part in 1913 and 1914, the last sixteen. At the Olympic Games in Stockholm in 1912 they did not occur in an individual in her first round match against Norwegian Valborg Bjurstedt.

Rieck, also an avid hockey player, was from 1929 to 1945 Damenwartin the German Hockey Federation and from 1930 to 1945 President of the Women's Committee of the World Hockey Association. She died in 1977 at the age of 86 years in Hamburg.
