Migjeni Theatre

The Migjeni Theatre (Albanian Theatres Migjeni ) in the northern Albanian city of Shkodra is one of the most important theaters in Albania.

The theater building is in the city center near the Sheshi Demokracia. It was built in 1958 and named after the poet who was born in Shkodra Migjeni ( 1911-1938 ). It is known for its romantic and poetic productions, often mixed with national- political issues.

As early as the predecessor first performances took place from 1879 here. However, the women acting was banned until 1919, so men had to also take on the roles of women. During the socialist regime here many pieces were shown by Bertolt Brecht.
