The European migratory locust is a grasshopper from the family of grasshoppers ( Acrididae ).

Features

The European migratory locust reaches a length of three to six inches, is strongly built and outstanding fly. It is this kind of different colors. Close relatives are the dreaded African giant swarms. Are held regularly migrations, which are triggered by " population explosion ". Before the animals their location remain faithfully for years at a constant and relatively low inventories. This phase is called " sedentaria ". In the traveling phase is called " gregaria ", the animals eat everything that comes their way, and thus destroy whole areas and their flora.

Habitat

One finds this kind of meadows, fields and in the open countryside in many parts of southern and eastern Europe.

Frequency

Previously there were mass developments, but today this type has become much rarer.

Attitude

L. migratoria is often grown as animal feed for example, some species of lizards. Important here is heat, occasional UV irradiation and sufficient food. If this is not present in sufficient quantities, it is advisable to consider fast-growing wheat. For egg laying, a 15 centimeter high part of the world is needed. The development from egg to larva requires about one month. Only the adult, winged animals are capable of reproduction.
