Miguel Canto

Miguel Canto ( born January 30, 1948 in Mérida, Mexico ) is a former Mexican flyweight boxer.

Career

Canto was founded in 1969 pro and fought until 1974 exclusively in his home country. He already lost his first and third fight by knockout, and his thirteenth on points, but was more often successful with its extremely movable lock boxes in the sequence.

He finally got on 4 August 1973 in his fortieth fight the opportunity to fight for the vacant WBC world title against the Venezuelan Betulio González, but failed even on points. As González but the next year lost his title to Shoji Oguma, offered for Canto soon a new title opportunity that he could use. On 8 January 1975 he finally won by one point victory over the Japanese in his second attempt for the title.

Reach him, then fourteen title defenses, including two each against González and Oguma, until he on March 18, 1979, he lost the title to the South Koreans Chan -Hee Park, the direct rematch ended in a draw. After the title loss Canto played eight more bouts and ultimately finished his career in 1982.

The " Ring Magazine " called him behind Jimmy Wilde as second best flyweight of all time. 1998 found Canto induction into the International Boxing Hall of Fame.
