Miguel de Molinos

Miguel de Molinos ( born June 29, 1628 Muniesa, † December 28, 1696 ) was the author of religious texts and spiritual director. He was considered one of the great spiritual masters of the Golden Age in Spain.

Life

De Molinos was born in 1628 in Muniesa in the Spanish province of Teruel and died in 1696 in Rome. In 1662 he was ordained a priest. Since 1663 he lived in Rome. 1675 Guía espiritual was first published in Rome. Until 1681 the work was repeatedly translated from Spanish into various languages ​​and published more than twenty times in Rome, Venice and Palermo. Although provided with an ecclesiastical imprimatur, the font was twelve years later rejected by a papal bull and placed on the Index of prohibited books. Molinos was arrested in 1685 and convicted in a show trial to eternal dungeon. All books that you were getting hold of, were handed over to the fire. His followers were persecuted by the Inquisition, they were accused of quietism. After eleven years of imprisonment Molinos died in the Inquisition prison.

After his death he was rehabilitated in 1798. The allegations against its programmatic principles were invalidated. The indexing of his books was lifted only with the Second Vatican Council.

Molinos Spiritual Guide takes on church approved motifs of Spanish mysticism in the tradition of Teresa of Avila, as well as the John of the Cross on careful perusal.
