Miguel Llobet

Miguel Llobet Solés ( cat. Miquel Llobet i Solés; born October 16, 1878 in Barcelona, † February 22, 1938 ) was a Spanish guitarist and composer. He was the most important representative of the school Tárrega and was considered the greatest Spanish guitar virtuoso.

Development of modern guitar technique

Looking at the guitar in terms of its development to modern technology a bit more closely, is always a name in the foreground: Francisco Tárrega. Biography

Miguel Llobet was born the son of a carpenter. He grew up in close proximity to Francisco Tárrega on in Barcelona. Early on, he was enthusiastic about painting, violin and piano. Later, his uncle gave him a guitar. In 1889, he pursued the guitar composer Antonio Jiménez Manjón the Teatre Catalunya. His visit prompted him in 1894 for lessons with Francisco Tárrega at the Municipal School of Music in Barcelona. His friends included Pau Casals, Emilio Pujol, Ricardo Viñes and Gaspar Cassadó. In 1900 he met Concepción Jacoby, Tárrega who promoted, financially.

He then began an active concert career in major cities of Spain. In 1903 he played in front of the royal family in Madrid. Like many of his fellow musicians, it also drew him to Paris in 1904. The pianist Ricardo Viñes where she organized his first concert. From here he toured in several European and Latin American countries. Later, he performed in the United States. Wherever he appeared, he was able to celebrate sensational success. His unique technique, his musical temperament and his interpretation of classical works as well as contemporary music triggered enthusiasm among the audience. Although not mentioned in Segovia's autobiography, he should have informed him in 1915.

The works

Llobet's compositions are mainly based on the Catalan folk music. His arrangements of works by the classical today have found their way into the fixed repertoire of contemporary guitar virtuoso. Llobet encouraged Manuel de Falla is a " Homenaje " ( pour le Tombeau de Claude Debussy ) to compose for the guitar. With this work, de Falla opened the repertoire of original compositions for guitar in the 20th century. It is one of the central and most important works of modern music for guitar. From the wide circle of students from Argentina Maria Luisa Anido Llobets won international recognition. With it, he played in duet and several works set to music.
