Miguel Mora Porras

José Miguel Mora Porras ( born September 29, 1816 in San Jose, † June 15, 1887 ibid ) was from 16 to 26 November 1849 President of Costa Rica.

Life

His parents were Ana Benita Porras y Ulloa and Camilo Mora y Alvarado. His siblings were Ana María Mora Porras, the wife of José María Montealegre Fernández; Guadalupe Mora Porras, the wife of General José María Cañas Escamilla [ wp 1].; Juan Rafael Mora Porras, General José Joaquín Mora Porras [ wp 2]

In April 1840 he married Felipa Montes de Oca y Gamero. In this marriage twelve children were born: Octavia, Esteban, Maria Agapita, Jose Abraham, Edelmira, Salomón, Micaela, Abraham, Miguel, Lucila, Ignacio and Juan Rafael Mora Montes de Oca.

He was a member of the Partido Liberal. For the Constituent Assembly from 1846 to 1847 was José Miguel Mora Porras Delgierter of Guanacaste. In 1848 he was elected Member of Parliament for San Jose.

Presidency

On 16 November 1849 Parliament accepted the resignation of President José María Castro Madriz. The Deputy for office was in Costa Rica President of the Parliament Nazario Toledo. [ Wp 3] This was not confirmed by Parliament, because he was not born in Costa Rica.

Frederick Chatfield came to San Jose and was officially received by José Miguel Mora Porras on November 24, 1849. On November 26, 1849 José Miguel Mora Porras gave the presidency to his older brother Juan Rafael Mora Porras on.

After his presidency, José Miguel Mora Porras was a deputy again. From March 22 to April 6, 1850 he was again executive president since his brother was absent.

In 1855 he was elected deputy for San Jose. He led this mandate not until the end of the term to which he was elected it. Since his brother was toppled in 1859, because he had broken the Constitution and then the state of emergency was declared, he went with the family Mora Poras for several years in exile in El Salvador.
