Miguel Syjuco

Miguel Syjuco ( born November 17, 1976 in Manila, Philippines) is a Filipino author.

Life

Syjuco is the son of Philippine politician Augusto Syjuco Jr., who worked with the party of the former Philippine President Gloria Macapagal- Arroyo. He finished high school in 1993 at the Cebu International School and gained a degree in English Literature at the Ateneo de Manila University in Manila in 2000. Between were years of exile along with his family in Canada. In 2004 he graduated with a Master of Fine Arts ( MFA) from Columbia University in New York City. He received a doctorate in phil. at the University of Adelaide in Adelaide in South Australia in early 2011.

Syjuco lives (2012 ) in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

Work

His first novel Ilustrado from 2008 was awarded a prize in the sequence.

  • 2011: Prix Courrier International for the best book to be translated into French
