Mika Ahola

Mika Ahola ( born December 13, 1974 in Hämeenlinna, Finland, † January 15, 2012 in Barcelona, Spain) was a Finnish enduro athletes. He was seven times member of the victorious Six -Days - Trophy- national and world champion in 2007 and 2010 in the E2 class, 2008 and 2009 in the E1 class and 2011 in the E3 class.

Sports career

Mika Ahola was driving in the Enduro World Championship since 1993. In 1996 he was a member of the victorious Finnish Six -Days team. In 1997 he finished second in the World Enduro Championship in the class up to 125 cc two-stroke on a TM. Two years later he was ³ two-stroke third parties and member of the victorious Six -Days Team in the class up to 250 cm. In 2000 he was second in the class up to 250 cc two-stroke. For next season, he joined the Italian motorcycle brand VOR and drove in class 500 cc four-stroke. In his first year he was second in the World Championship. He repeated this success the following year. In 2003 he achieved a fifth place. In the years 2002 to 2004, he won the Finnish national team at the International Six Day Trial. For the 2004 season, he moved to Husqvarna and was in the Enduro World Championship fourth in the E3 class. He could repeat this success in 2005. In 2006 he was second in the E2 class on a Honda. Mika Ahola 2007 World Champion of the E2 class ahead of his compatriot and defending champion Samuli Aro. The following year he won the World Championship title in the E1 class. This he defended 2009. 2010 moved back to the class E 2 and won the title again. In 2011 he drove in the E3 class and won the world title again.

On New Year 2012 Ahola announced his retirement from enduro racing.

Mika Ahola died on January 15, 2012 in a hospital in Barcelona severe internal injuries he had sustained in a training accident a few weeks earlier.
