Mike Gold

Michael Gold ( born as Itzok Isaac Granich, also called " Mike" called ) ( born April 12, 1894 in New York City; † May 14, 1967 in Terra Linda, California ) was an American writer and literary critic.

Life

Gold was born in the Lower East Side of New York as one of three sons Romanian- Jewish immigrants. He published his first book under the name " Irwin Granich ". Under the pseudonym " Michael Gold" he wrote his book " Jews without money ", which became a bestseller. In the period of civil war " Palmer 's raids " he committed himself to pursuing anarchists and communists. In 1925 he traveled to the Soviet Union, whose admirers he had become since the October Revolution. In 1926 he began publishing the magazine "The New Masses" ( "The new masses "), which he led as editor in chief from 1928 to 1934.

The popularity of his book " Jews without money " made ​​him a cultural leader of the Communist Party USA. Until his death, he wrote editorials for their daily newspaper " Daily Worker ".
