Mike Lindup

Mike Lindup ( born March 17, 1959 in London ) is an English keyboard player, percussionist, songwriter and singer and is working since 2005 with the funk and pop band Level 42

Musical Career

Mike Lindup was born in 1959 as a child of musical parents in London. He began at the age of three years with first compositions and received his first piano lessons at age six. At the Chetham's School of Music, he studied piano, percussion and composition, and participated as a singer in various choirs. He moved to the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where he expanded his range on percussion with major orchestras and performed with drums and keyboards in various jazz ensembles and pop workshops.

In the spring of 1980, he was with the radio bassist Mark King and the brothers Boon Gould and Phil Gould founding member of the band Level 42 in the next 15 years he achieved as a keyboard player, songwriter and singer for Level 42 worldwide success and took the band 13 albums that have sold over 15 million times.

Changes ( 1990)

His experience as a songwriter, singer, arranger and producer, he continued with "Changes" was first published in June 1990 solo album around. Along with co-producer Calum Malcolm and some musician friends, including Manu Katche ( Drums ), Pino Palladino ( bass) and Dominic Miller ( guitar), he produced a musical often CONTINUED to the Level 42 sound collection of melodic, often ballad- like pieces. They are characterized by its typical polyphonic recorded own vocal style, and also the typical clear, simple and yet virtuosic style, same fit to arrange with his keyboards sound carpet and sing along to each other. In the last piece ( Paixao ) he processed his love for Samba and Brazilian music with some friends the " London School of Samba". The album was commercially despite some pretty -sounding songs ( Changes, Desire ) a commercial flop and it is now difficult to obtain today.

On 14 October 1994 Mike Lindup played the last live concert with Level 42 at the Royal Albert Hall. Since the end of the collaboration with Mark King was also quiet to Mike Lindup. He produced music for commercials (Audi Sport Video ( Return of the Four Rings, 1996) ) and gave concerts with the Latin jazz band Negrocan ( 1994-1998 ). He devoted himself to the study of 1998 "Cuban Popular Music and Dance" at the National School of the Arts in Havana, Cuba.

Conversations with Silence ( 2003)

In November 2003 he published after four years of work, his second solo album "Conversations with Silence", on which he combined classical music with Latin jazz and film music and where he met with some guests (eg with Bosco d' Oliveira, violinist Steve Tees and bassist Danny Thompson) can be heard.

Since July 2000 he has been a keyboardist, percussionist and backing vocalist ( in Portuguese ) Since the formation Lata active, which occurs in various clubs and festivals in Europe, USA & Canada, Japan, South Africa and China.

Return to Level 42

2005 brought him Mark King back in the band. He replaced by the English keyboardist Lyndon Connah. In 2006, she then went with " Retroglide " on the tour. In 2010 he started together with the band the " 30anniversary tour", and went with the band on a world tour. He himself said in an interview that he came back with more creative ideas. He had this collected over all these years.

Hobbies

Little known is his motor sports passion. He drove example, a Ferrari 246 GT, a Lotus Elan Sprint DHC and an Audi Sport quattro. His friend Mark Waghorn persuaded him to a race participation with a Citroën 2CV (better known as duck), where he was third at a national championship in 2005. Four times he took part in Mondello Park, Ireland in the annual 24 -hour race. In an accident in a duck he broke a thumb, but again healed well and did not affect his musical career.

An avid photographer, he designed the album "Conversations with Silence" and satisfies with his soulful portrayal of Ireland's west coast on the cover and the Inlet. As an amateur painter, he collected money at auction for the charity event "children's charity Kith and Kids".
