Mike Phelan

Mike Phelan (2012 )

Michael Christopher Phelan (* September 24 1962 in Nelson, Lancashire ) is a former English footballer. During his career he played for several English clubs, including Norwich City and Manchester United. He made 1989 one match for England and won with Manchester United the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1990/91. 2002 took him to Norwich City in the local Hall of Fame.

Coaching career

From 2008 to 2013 he was assistant coach of Alex Ferguson at Manchester United. In the absence of Ferguson Phelan represented him in interviews and press conferences, such as after the Champions League first knockout round, second leg between Manchester and Real Madrid in March 2013.

Following the resignation of Ferguson in May 2013 Phelan was the new coach of Manchester United, David Moyes, dismissed.
