Mike Scott (musician)

Michael " Mike" Scott ( born December 14, 1958 in Edinburgh, Scotland) is a Scottish singer, guitarist and pianist. It is a founding member and songwriter of the Scotch-Irish folk-rock band The Waterboys. With Bring 'em All In (1995) and Still Burning ( 1997), he has also produced two solo albums.

Scott's musical career began in the 1970s in school bands and the band he founded in karma. In 1977 he started at the University of Edinburgh to study English literature and philosophy, but he dropped out after a year. Later influences from William Butler Yeats and Robert Burns should be found in his song lyrics for the Waterboys.

Scott founded with guitarist Allan McConnell, the band The Bootlegs, was made ​​in 1978 with other members Another Pretty Face. With its own record label, the band released several singles. The first release, All the Boys Love Carrie, received the award from the New Musical Express "Single of the Week". The band signed with Virgin Records and toured with the Stiff Little Fingers. The recording contract was terminated, however, again, after the band had produced a demo recording. There followed in 1981 a contract with Ensign Records associated with a move to London and renamed Funhouse. A session in the RedShop Studios in December 1981 was the beginning of the first Waterboys album, which was released in 1983.
