Mikhail Romm

Mikhail Ilyich Romm (Russian: Михаил Ильич Ромм, scientific transliteration Mikhail Romm Il'ič; * Januarjul 11 / 24 January 1901greg in Irkutsk, Siberia. . † November 1, 1971 in Moscow, Soviet Union) was a Russian film director and screenwriter.

Life

Mikhail Romm was born in Irkutsk, the son of a Jewish social democrats, who was exiled to Siberia. He graduated from high school in 1917 and began to study at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture. He struggled during his time at the College in the Red Army in the Russian Civil War. In 1925 he finished the highest artistic and technical department for sculptures of the Moscow School and continued to work as a sculptor and translator. From 1931 he worked at Mosfilm, where he was from 1940 to 1943 artistic director of the Mosfilm film production. Between 1942 and 1947 he was director of a theater studios for film actor, film director and later several successful films such as Nine days of one year and the documentary The Ordinary Fascism.
