Mikkeli Cathedral

The Cathedral of Mikkeli Mikkeli in Finland is the Episcopal Church of the Evangelical Lutheran Diocese of Mikkeli. The bishop's seat was originally located in Savonlinna, then in the Russian town of Vyborg. Only after the loss Wyborgs 1945 Russia the bishopric was moved to Mikkeli.

Building

Run from brick church was built in 1896-1897 by Josef Stenbäck in neo-Gothic style. The altarpiece by Pekka Halonen is from the year 1899. During World War II, large parts of the city were laid in ruins, the church suffered only minor damage itself. 1954-1955 the church was renovated, the wooden pulpit was replaced by a more sober. During the renovation 1983-1984 the church was bright and friendly colors, also the arrangement of the benches has been changed.

The church can accommodate up to 1,200 seats and 900 standing places.

Equipment

The organ of the Kangasala - organ workshop has 51 registers.

The bells date from Bochum club. Electric lighting was installed in 1901.
