Miklós Németh

Miklós Németh [ Miklos ː ʃ ː ne mɛt ] ( born January 14, 1948 in Monok ) is a Hungarian politician and was dated 23 November 1988 to May 23, 1990 the Hungarian Prime Minister.

General

During his tenure, he contributed to the fall of the curtain Eisernern by letting degrade the Hungarian border fortifications on the border with Austria in May 1989. This allowed, among others, many East Germans to flee to the West.

After leaving the office of Prime Minister Németh was Vice President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. He held until 2000 this office. Subsequently, he failed in his attempt to become the Prime Minister candidate for the Hungarian Socialist Party in the 2002 elections, his opponent Peter Medgyessy finally could the choice to decide for themselves.

Miklós Németh was appointed by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP ) on 11 September 2007 as head of the new committee, which monitors the activities of the North Korean authorities. The Committee will complement the work of the UN Board of Auditors, which started work in January 2007 at the request of UN Secretary-General Ban Ki -moon.
