Mikołaj Sęp Szarzyński

Mikołaj Sęp Szarzynski (* 1550 in Zimna Woda, † 1581 presumably in Wolica ) was a Polish poet of the late Renaissance.

Little is known about SEPs circumstances. He was the son of Joachim Sęp, the Podstoli of Lvov and studied in Wittenberg and Leipzig, where he was safe with the rise of Protestantism in contact. His works are probably lost for the most part. Only a narrow band under the title Rytmy albo Wiersze polskie that his son Jakub published in 1601, has been preserved. He enthälte sonnets, hymns, psalm paraphrases and epitaphs and epigrams in Latin and Polish. He stands in the literary tradition of the Renaissance, but already shows Mannerist tendencies.
