Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-8

The Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG -8 Utka ( German duck, Russian Микоян - Гуревич МиГ -8 Утка ) was a Soviet experimental aircraft.

Development

It was designed in duck construction and had a swept wing with a 20 ° wedge-shaped horizontal stabilizer on the bow. The rudder was located initially at the ends of the main wing, but was later moved to the center.

The construction group consisted of students from the Zhukovsky Akademi conducted by G. A. Tokayev and examined in this type together with employees of the ZAGI the stability and steerability of equipped aircraft with swept wings at low speeds.

The pattern was built in 1945 in OKB -155 and tested at the end of the year to 1947 by Alexander Zhukov and Alexei Grintschik. The obtained during the test data on the behavior of swept-wing aircraft on landing approach were incorporated into the design of the successful MiG -15. After completion of the tests, the aircraft served for a time as a liaison aircraft in Mikoyan -Gurevich. The whereabouts of the prototype is not known.

The MiG -8 was a strutted high -wing monoplane wood construction with fabric covering. The one-wheeled nose landing gear was fixed with the main wheels had aerodynamic fairings.
