Mikulovská highlands of northern

The Mikulovská Highlands ( German: Nikolsburger mountains ) is a mountain range in South Moravia, Czech Republic. He, together with the washing mountain zone and the Lower Austrian Inselsberg threshold, the Austro- South Moravian Carpathians.

Geography

The Mikulovská Highlands rises on the right side of the Thaya between Nový Přerov, the reservoirs of Nové Mlýny Bulhary, Mikulov and the border with Austria. It has an area of 81 km ² and an average height of 263.4 m nm The highest peak is the Devin ( 549 m), further surveys are obora ( 481 m), Stolová hora ( 458 m), Palava ( 461 m), Stara hora (352 m) and Turold (385 m).

To the north, the valley of the Thaya forms the natural border with the Dolnomoravský úval ( Southern March basin). To the east, the hill country from falling between the Thaya and the Včelínek / Niklas trench also to Dolnomoravský úval. Southeast of the March Field joins. To the southwest, the mountain range in Austria continues in the washing mountain zone. To the west in turn forms the Thaya Thaya the border to Schwarza valley floor. Geomorphological subunits form the Palava ( Pavlov hills ) and the Milowitzer hills ( Milovická pahorkatina ).

The Mikulovská Highlands consists of soft Flyschschichten with Jurakalkklippen.

The mountain is partly forested ( especially in the Milovická pahorkatina ), but mostly of agricultural used land, including vineyards, covered. Most of the Mikulovská Highlands belongs since 1976 to the 83 km ² Pálava and since 1986 a Biosphere Reserve Lower Morava (until 2003 Palava Biosphere Reserve ).
